From 12th to 18th June is Cervical Screening Awareness Week. Smear tests are offered by the NHS to all women aged between 18 and 64. These screening tests check for any abnormalities in cells of the cervix and allow us to treat the problem before it progresses into cancer. Early treatment means 75 out of 100 cases of potential cervical cancer can be prevented. Despoite this, the attendance rate for smear tests is falling, especially among younger women. This is worrying, as if a problem isn't found early, there may be more women who end up suffering though cancer and possibly losing their lives. A smear test takes only a few minutes and could save your life. If you are invited to attend a check, we urge you to book the appointment.
